Groups and Activities

Children

Play Area

The play area in church is available at all our services, and there are toys and storybooks available. We also have toilet facilities in the Hall.

Children's Group

A Children's group meets in the hall from 9.25am during term-time (except the first Sunday of the month) for children aged 4 upwards. We aim to learn about the Christian faith in an enjoyable way. Children take part in storytelling, singing, prayer, drama, and craft. They join the congregation in church for the second half of the service.

Family Services

Family Services are held on the first Sunday of the month at 11.15am. These services are suitable for all age groups. Children from Beavers, Cubs, Brownies, Guides and Sunday School are involved in the services, welcoming people, reading, leading prayers, drama and singing. The services last 30 to 40 minutes and include a short talk involving an activity, drama or visual aids, and a variety of music.

Family Communion Services with hymns are held on the third Sunday of the month at 11.15am. These services are also suitable for all age groups.

Baptism and Confirmation

Parents enquiring about Baptism should contact the Team Vicar, the Revd Ian Todd. Baptisms are normally held at 11.15am and occasionally during the 9.30am service. The Parish of Hitchin is currently exploring children receiving communion from the age of 7, following a programme of preparation. A Confirmation Service is held each year in the Parish. Confirmation classes are held in the summer and autumn. Adults or young people interested in being Confirmed are invited to register in the spring.

Contact: the Team Vicar, the Revd Ian Todd, on 01462 456140.

We have a Child protection policy and all our leaders and helpers have experience of working with children.

We are always delighted to welcome new children to our activities.

Holy Saviour Church Choir

Rehearsals – Thursdays 7.30 p.m. Weekly Service – Sundays 9.30 a.m.

The Choir currently comprises some 22 members, adults and children, who sing a regular weekly Eucharist, with additional festival services and concerts throughout the year. Recent choir trips have involved singing services in Norfolk, Warwickshire, Blenheim Palace Chapel, and also in Barbados, where the Choir recorded a TV programme and gave four concerts, one of which was broadcast on Caribbean Radio.

The choir is very enthusiastic, friendly and welcoming, and enjoys singing a broad range of music to a high standard. Rehearsals are in church on Thursday evenings at 7.30 p.m. and there are currently vacancies, especially for tenors and basses.

The Radcliffe Singers

The Radcliffe Singers is a chamber female voice choir, formed in 2003, and was initially based on the nucleus of sopranos and altos in Holy Saviour Church Choir. Since then, the choir has welcomed new members, currently numbering 21 singers, and enjoys singing a wide repertoire of sacred and secular music. Rehearsals are in church on Monday evenings at 7.30 p.m., and we are always keen to welcome new singers.

For further information about either choir, please contact the Organist and Choirmaster, Trevor Hughes, 50, Whitethorn Lane, Letchworth, SG6 2DJ. Tel: 01462 675496; Email: trevorhughes30@hotmail.com

Baby and Toddler Club

We are a drop-in group for parents and carers of children, and we meet in the church hall on Tuesday mornings from 9.30-11.30 a.m. during school term time for constructive play, socialising and refreshments. Our age-group is 0-school age. Play facilities include sand, painting, jigsaws, craft, toys, imaginative play, and ride-on toys. We have a summer day trip, usually to a farm, and a Christmas party. Our group is led by church members, but is open to all nationalities and creeds. So far we have had Americans, Swedes, Germans, French, Sri Lankans, East Indians, Chinese, Japanese and Africans.
